End of the road, North Canol Road, Yukon

At least for us, this is the end of the North Canol Road. Just across the border between the Yukon and the Northwest Territories, north of Macmillan Pass, this unmaintained bridge proves to be too difficult to cross with our camper. Tracks from other vehicles seem to suggest otherwise, but we decide to cross over on foot and walk for another few kilometers. We spot a single engine aircraft flying a few hundred meters to the west of us, dipping its wings as the pilot spots us. We head back to the camper and an hour later a battered truck crosses the bridge and stops at our camp. It's the pilot of the small plane, a game warden stationed a few kilometers ahead in the NWT. He was on a patrol flight to check out the carcass of a big moose that a grizzly bear had killed and burried here just a few days ago. After we signed his “guest book” (we were only the third entry for that year), he left us with a stern warning to look out for the bear ...
